A young people's project hosted by YMCA Singapore. One of the main aims of this project is to provide an alternative but healthy hangout for ...well, basically anyone, but especially people who believe that there's more to Friday nights than queuing outside a crowded pub.Located on the rooftop of YMCA Orchard (that's in Singapore, in case you're wondering), we usually play host to local performing arts groups - mostly singing groups. We currently operate on one Friday of every month, from 7.30 p.m - 11 p.m which happens to be our performance night.
Starting from 7 Jan 2000, friends and visitors have enjoyed the cool night breeze, Oreo shakes (if we run of 'em, then it's really tough luck.) and Budak Pantai on one Friday @ blue Moo at the rooftop of the YMCA.
When we are not hosting singing or performing groups, we host off-the-beaten-track jazz music (on CDs) - Phil Sheeren, Anna Caram, Roy Obiedo to name a few. Just a BIT eclectic, but very palatable. Instead of hours sifting through CDs in the Jazz section of HMV, you can spend an evening at our cafe and catch some of the latest easy listening jazz in the market.
"What is blue Moo?"
blue Moo is an odd little sidewalk cafe sort of place, tucked quietly away on the rooftop of the Orchard YMCA. Here's some snapshots of the place.
"When do you open?"
We're currently open on one Friday night, from
7.30p.m till 11p.m, which is our performance night.
"How do I book seats for performances @ blue Moo?"
Well, take a look what's happening 'On Stage' !
"How do I buy stuff from you?"
Take a look at our " Menu " to see what you can buy.
"What sort of stuff do you serve?"
We serve an assortment of easy listening jazz music, local coffee, live performances (sometimes), cool night air
(or other times just night air), Oreo™ shakes, star studded night sky, board games, friendly conversation, non-alcoholic cocktails, and dinner.
"Is this a hip place to hang out?"
No, we’re not "Arty" or "Alternative" or "Retro" or "Hip", or any of the other common brands of uniqueness, we’re just doing the stuff we like - jazz music & kopitiam coffee, a cappella singers and lindy hop dancers, a sidewalk cafe on a roof. We haven’t quite figured out how to describe ourselves yet.
"Who performs there?"
We started out with just one singing group, Budak Pantai
- who currently performs on one Friday of the month. We also had a team of illusionists, the Guys from Thin Air, another singing group, Alistaire and friends. Recently in 2006, local jazz a cappella group, Key Elements, a younger singing group, Equivox and an Indie rock band, 1-point Brilliance came to perform at our humble premise. Find out when they are performing and how you can join us.
